Portugal’s Gaming Regulation and Inspection Service (SRIJ) announced the launch of a new self-exclusion system on April 8, 2026, which aims to simplify the process for self-excluding from all licensed operators in the country.
The goal of the new framework is to make the self-exclusion request process simpler and more intuitive, as the system has been optimized for mobile devices. In the updated version, players will be able to self-exclude for specific time periods, starting with a minimum of three months up to indefinitely.
The SRIJ commented:
“With this new platform, SRIJ reinforces the quality of its digital services and the effectiveness of the gambling control mechanisms available to players.”
The platform has been improved to allow a more direct and accessible process at all stages, as mentioned by the regulator, as responsible gaming is considered an important element in Portugal’s regulated market, with the new self-exclusion system marking a step towards a better supervised gambling sector.
The regulator is also in the middle of a recruitment process, seeking to find 11 inspectors, of which 4 are for the game information technology infrastructure management area, 6 for the area of control and inspection systems for the integrity of game information, and 1 Inspector for the computer projects area in land-based gaming.
At the moment, there are 17 licensed operators in Portugal, with data showing that the market generated €337.6 million in Q4 2025.
